Beth Mehus
Preparing for graduation, Beth Mehus reflects on her time at VCSU and all the skills she learned from the English Department. Mehus also recalls all the real-life experience she got from her internship during the fall semester.
Hometown: Finley, N.D.
Year: Senior
Major/Minor: English with a marketing minor and a digital marketing certificate & digital design certificate
Activities on campus: New Student Orientation, Viking Voyage Mentor, Student Senate, English Club Treasurer, and Learning Commons Tutor
About Beth’s fall internship:
I interned with the sports information department in the fall. I got the chance to create social media graphics and write recaps of sports games. There was also a lot of other tasks that I tackled, and overall it was a great experience!
Future plans after graduation:
I’m not sure yet! However, I hope to find a company I can work for and help them with their social media and website presence. Right now, I have been working with a nursing home and creating a couple of social media graphics for them. So, wherever life takes me!
How has your minor helped you?
I am completing a marketing minor, and so far, it has been extremely helpful. I get to combine my love for writing and creative skills with technology and design websites and use these resources in a lot of different ways such as in class and work scenarios. A lot of people need help when it comes to both of these aspects so I’m glad I can do it for anyone who needs it.
What has been your favorite memory from VCSU?
All of my English and literature classes have been amazing! The professors have been incredibly supportive and kind throughout the years. When I first started, I felt a bit out of place, but once I connected with the English department, I truly felt at home. I’ve taken many writing courses, but none compared to ENGL 330, creative writing. It allowed me to explore my creativity and let my writing flow freely. I had a blast in that class, and I highly recommend it to any student, no matter their major.
